Afenyo-Markin Urges Ghanaians to Reflect on Mahama's Record Ahead of 2024 Elections

In a fervent appeal to Ghanaians, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has urged the electorate to critically evaluate the track record of former President John Dramani Mahama as they prepare to vote in the upcoming 2024 general elections. His remarks were made during the launch of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) manifesto, where he drew sharp contrasts between the two leading candidates, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama.

Afenyo-Markin pointed to several challenges that characterized Mahama's tenure, such as fuel shortages and the severe power outages, popularly known as "Dumsor," which he believes disqualifies Mahama as a viable option for leadership. "You've the option to choose between a steady growth under Dr. Bawumia or dangerous regression under John Dramani Mahama," he emphasized.

The Majority Leader painted a picture of progress and stability under the current NPP administration, suggesting that the leadership of Dr. Bawumia, who is the NPP's presidential candidate for 2024, represents continuity and growth. In contrast, he described a potential return to Mahama's leadership as a step backward, marked by economic and infrastructural regression.

Afenyo-Markin also highlighted the significant policy differences between the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), particularly in the area of education. He noted that while the NPP has successfully implemented the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which has provided relief to many Ghanaian families, the NDC's recent promise of no fees for first-year tertiary students under Mahama is not credible. He reminded the public that Mahama had previously opposed the Free SHS policy, casting doubt on his commitment to the proposed tertiary education initiative.

Afenyo-Markin called on Ghanaians to appreciate the stability they have enjoyed under the NPP government despite the challenges, asserting that it is a stark contrast to the difficulties experienced under Mahama's administration. As the December 7 election approaches, he urged voters to make a choice that would ensure continued progress rather than a return to what he described as the failures of the past.
