The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has strongly endorsed the healthcare vision laid out by the party's 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Ahiagbah expressed his confidence in Bawumia's proposals, stating that they would significantly improve healthcare outcomes across Ghana.
Drawing on his personal experiences with the nation's healthcare system, Ahiagbah emphasized the importance of the ongoing Agenda 111 project, which aims to establish hospitals in every district. He believes that increasing the number of well-equipped hospitals will reduce the burden on major tertiary facilities like the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, ultimately enhancing the quality of healthcare for all Ghanaians.
Central to Bawumia's healthcare vision is the recruitment and motivation of healthcare workers. Ahiagbah pointed out that the flagbearer’s plans include recruiting more doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, coupled with improved conditions of service. This, he argued, would help address critical issues such as the exodus of healthcare workers and increase staff capacity in the sector.
The manifesto also emphasizes the completion of the Agenda 111 hospitals, the digitization of public healthcare institutions through the E-health project, and the expansion of telehealth services. Additionally, Bawumia proposes to enhance medical drone delivery services and ensure the interoperability of the National Electronic Pharmacy Platform (NEPP) across public and private healthcare facilities.
In a bid to further motivate healthcare workers, Bawumia plans to offer incentives for the purchase of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 1,800cc and enforce the existing incentive package for those working in deprived areas.
Ahiagbah passionately called on all health sector workers to back Bawumia in the upcoming December 7, 2024, election. He asserted that a vote for Bawumia is a vote for quality, accessible, and improved healthcare outcomes for all Ghanaians. He concluded by urging Ghanaians to prioritize their health by supporting Bawumia’s candidacy, framing it as a commitment to the nation's healthcare future.
