In a recent interview with Zionfelix, veteran Ghanaian music producer Fredyma has lauded the character of Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO. He refuted widespread claims that NAPO is arrogant, instead portraying him as a humble and generous individual who has had a positive impact on his life both personally and professionally.
Fredyma, who is well-known for his significant contributions to the Ghanaian music industry, revealed that he shares a deep-rooted connection with NAPO, dating back to their days as classmates at Prempeh College. According to Fredyma, during their time in school, NAPO was known for his disciplined nature and leadership qualities, traits that he continues to exhibit in his public service role today.
During the interview, Fredyma disclosed that NAPO played a critical role in helping him recover from a major setback following the infamous June 3rd incident. This event, which refers to the devastating floods and fire disaster that occurred in Accra in 2015, had a significant impact on many Ghanaians, including Fredyma, who suffered losses as a result. In the aftermath of this tragedy, NAPO stepped in to provide financial assistance to Fredyma, enabling him to set up a new music studio.
Fredyma expressed his deep gratitude for NAPO’s support, emphasizing that it was not just the financial help that mattered, but the genuine concern and humility with which it was offered. “NAPO is not arrogant, he helped me in SHS and bought a new studio setup for me,” Fredyma stated, dispelling any misconceptions about NAPO’s character.
Furthermore, Fredyma explained why he remains a staunch supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He mentioned that his loyalty to the party stems from his belief in its philosophy and the principles it stands for. He noted that his personal experiences with NAPO, a prominent figure in the NPP, have only reinforced his commitment to the party.
Fredyma’s interview sheds light on a side of NAPO that is often overshadowed by public perception. Through his words, Fredyma painted a picture of a man who is not only disciplined and principled but also compassionate and generous—a true testament to the qualities that he believes define a good leader.
