The Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, has made a passionate case for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, insisting that he deserves an equal opportunity to lead Ghana as President of the Republic.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, the Kpandai MP did not mince words as he defended Dr. Bawumia’s leadership credentials, describing him as a dependable, compassionate, and committed leader whose actions speak louder than political narratives.
“Leadership Is About Standing by People”
According to Mr. Nyindam, his confidence in Dr. Bawumia is rooted not in slogans but in personal experience. He revealed that during the difficult legal battle over his parliamentary seat, Dr. Bawumia stood firmly by him from beginning to end.
> “He checked on my welfare constantly and offered support throughout the court process. At a time when the pressure was intense, he showed genuine concern. To me, that is leadership,” Mr. Nyindam said.
He described the former Vice President as a brother who remained present when it mattered most, adding that such loyalty and consistency are rare but essential qualities for national leadership.
Equal Opportunity, Not Selective Judgment
Addressing critics who question Dr. Bawumia’s suitability for the presidency, the Kpandai MP urged Ghanaians to be fair and objective.
> “People have said many things about others in the past, yet they still went on to become presidents. So obviously, Bawumia can also be given an equal opportunity to become President of the Republic of Ghana,” he stated.
Mr. Nyindam argued that Ghana’s democracy thrives when leadership choices are based on competence, ideas, and character—not selective criticism or political bias.
A Contrast in Commitment
In a candid revelation, the MP noted that while former Minister Bryan Acheampong initially reached out when the legal case began, communication stopped shortly after. In contrast, Dr. Bawumia’s support never wavered.
This consistency, he stressed, reflects a deeper sense of responsibility and empathy—traits that Ghana needs in its highest office.
Leadership Beyond Power
Mr. Nyindam concluded that Dr. Bawumia’s show of solidarity, humility, and dedication to people, not just positions, makes him worthy of consideration for the presidency.
> “Ghana needs leaders who understand struggle, stand with people in hard times, and have the vision to move the country forward,” he added.
A Call to National Reflection
As Ghana continues to search for leadership that can unite the nation, strengthen institutions, and drive development, voices like that of the Kpandai MP challenge citizens to look beyond politics and focus on values, integrity, and proven leadership.
The question, he suggests, is not whether Dr. Bawumia should be judged—but whether he should be judged fairly, like every other leader before him.
