A woman who survived being held captive by kidnappers has recounted the traumatic conditions she says she experienced in a bandit camp, alleging that she and other female hostages were subjected to severe abuse and exploitation.
According to her testimony, the captors ensured that the women were adequately fed and physically healthy before repeatedly forcing them into sexual acts.
She claimed, “They would feed us well so we remained strong, then several of the men would sexually assault us. In some cases, one girl was made to satisfy three or four men in a single day.”
Her account has renewed public concern about Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges and the suffering endured by people held by armed groups. It has also fueled discussions about how authorities deal with captured bandits and policies aimed at rehabilitating former fighters.
