Chelsea’s young forward Jesse Derry was taken to hospital after suffering a head injury during his Premier League debut in a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday.

The 18-year-old collided with Zach Abbott inside the penalty area shortly before half-time at Stamford Bridge. Medical staff rushed onto the pitch and treated Derry for several minutes, administering oxygen before he was stretchered off and transported to hospital for precautionary checks.

In an official statement, Chelsea FC confirmed the teenager was conscious and responsive. Interim manager Calum McFarlane later reassured fans, saying early signs were positive and expressing hope that the injury was not serious.

Despite the concerning incident, Derry’s debut marked an important milestone in his career. The England U-19 international, who joined from Crystal Palace FC, has impressed at academy level this season.

The match incident also led to a penalty for Chelsea, but Cole Palmer saw his effort saved by Matz Sels. Chelsea will now await further medical updates on Derry’s condition.
