A man arrested alongside media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah has made a shocking confession, claiming Afrifa-Mensah hired a team of 15 men to disrupt the NPP's internal elections in the Sekyere East Constituency.
The Confession
In a viral video filmed inside a police pickup truck, the unidentified man — described as a "machoman" — spilled details under questioning. "Okatakyie was the one who brought us here to the voting centre. We are about 15 in number. He accommodated us at Agona, and we are from Kenyasi," he stated.
What Happened
The chaos erupted on Sunday, July 12, 2026, during the Afigya Sekyere East constituency executive elections in the Ashanti Region. According to reports, Afrifa-Mensah attempted to present a court document showing the election had been injuncted. Instead of being heard, he was physically bundled into a police vehicle by security forces.
Videos show Afrifa-Mensah, wearing a green and black jersey with yellow stripes, being escorted into the back of a police truck while other members of his team were also arrested or fled the scene. Some of his team members were reportedly assaulted during the confrontation.
The Court Order
The NPP had actually suspended elections in Afigya Sekyere East and Asante Akyem Central constituencies on July 6, 2026, following court orders restraining the party from proceeding. The directive was signed by Acting National Chairman Danquah Buttey Smith after a National Steering Committee meeting.
