NPP aspiring National Organiser Nana Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah, popularly known as "Nana Kay," has launched a blistering attack on the ruling NDC, accusing President John Dramani Mahama's administration of using state institutions to wage war on the opposition.
"Rambo-Style" Arrests
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Nana Kay did not mince words. He accused the government of "gross lawlessness" and abusing the human rights of NPP members through arbitrary arrests, intimidation, and constant harassment without justifiable cause. He described the tactics as "Rambo-style" arrests designed to silence dissent.
The Miracles Aboagye Case
Nana Kay specifically addressed the alleged arrest of Denis Miracles Aboagye, special aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He noted that details remain unconfirmed and stressed that until Aboagye is granted access to his lawyers and family, the party cannot verify the reasons behind his detention.
But his message was already clear: this is not justice. It is persecution.
"Power Is Transient"
Nana Kay directed a sharp warning at EOCO head Raymond Archer: "Nobody is against EOCO conducting its official duties, but let's pretend the allegations against Miracles are true and he was arrested over corruption issues, is EOCO the appropriate body to investigate that?"
He reminded Archer that power does not last forever — a pointed threat that today's enforcer could be tomorrow's target.
"Idi Amin" Comparison
Nana Kay escalated his rhetoric dramatically, comparing Mahama's governance style to the late Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, who ruthlessly crushed opponents. He fumed: "The human rights we have protected, the democracy we have guarded and protected over three decades, the NDC is using just four years to destroy them. I am afraid of what is happening."
"They Can Arrest Bawumia"
His defiance peaked with a direct challenge: "They can even arrest Dr. Bawumia; nothing will prevent us from criticising this very wicked government." The message to NPP supporters was clear — stay calm, stay united, and do not be intimidated.
The Hypocrisy Charge
Nana Kay also called out what he sees as double standards. He referenced Sammy Gyamfi, now CEO of COCOBOD, who he said fiercely criticized the former NPP president over flooding issues. Yet under the NDC, he argued, flood disasters are far worse — with the Greater Accra Regional Minister even accepting a "Best Minister's Award" while people drown.
Okatakyie Afrifa's Arrest
He also condemned the arrest of broadcast journalist Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, alleging police assaulted and manhandled him. While not against lawful arrests, he rejected heavy-handed tactics.
The Bigger Picture
For Nana Kay, this is existential. He believes Mahama's "second coming" has one purpose: destroy the NPP. His response? The party is "strong and firm," and no amount of state pressure will break it.
For Ghanaians, the question is whether these are genuine abuses of power or the familiar cry of an opposition feeling the heat.
